Selection of the trekking trail

This is the primary thing one needs to work on before trekking. Trekking is a physical activity, and hence, it is important to know your limits and stamina. It is better to ignore the difficult trails in the initial phase. Begin with an easy or medium level trekking trail that would help you in building strength for the difficult trails. The training phase should be easy and fun to experience. If you are not physically strong, start building your limits by going for long walks.

You can also wear day packs while your walks include inclines and descents which would help you on actual trekking trails. When you think you are ready for a small trail, then plan for trekking with an easy route. Slowly, you can head towards medium and then difficult trails.

Get the best trekking equipment

Another important thing to look after for the beginners is the trekking equipment. Invest in a good equipment kit, which includes good footwear, hip straps, back straps, etc. that would add comfort in trekking. On a serious note, it is important to have proper footwear. Go for boots that would be with you for the long time period. Selecting footwear with poor quality would lead to blisters, and it can also harm your ankles.

Selecting the best trekking boots would keep you safe from any accidental injuries and would also protect you from slipping while trekking. Selecting boots that cover your ankles too is also the best selection to go with, as it also gives required support to the ankles. Along with the boots, the backpack is also essential to work on. You definitely didn’t want to go with a backstrap that would be uncomfortable.

Go with your own speed

The beginners generally commit a mistake while beginning with trekking of moving with amazing speed due to the excitement. Due to this, after crossing half of the trail, they are tired and need to rest. Hence, as it is recommended, to begin with your own speed instead of running out of excitement. Enjoy your track and the time, know the surrounding, admire the nature around, etc. Trekking is not a race so you can also take breaks in the middle.

While taking breaks, don’t simply seat, instead, stretch your body and muscles which would help in further trekking. This would also reduce the pain levels in the body, and especially, the legs when you complete the trail.

Remain hydrated throughout the trail

Yes, water holds quite a vital role when you are looking for trekking. The beginners generally don’t carry the adequate amount of water with them. It is important to carry water in excess quantity as at the time of trekking, you might find yourself dehydrated and thirsty too. Have proper amount of water bottles with you, along with water filtration devices that help in getting fresh and hygienic water on the trails. While you trek, keep drinking lots of water at regular intervals which would help in keeping you hydrated. Apart from water, you can also keep some handy and light snack items with you in your bags like energy bars that are helpful too on the trails.

Be sure about the weather

Weather is something that comes with uncertainty. Hence, it is important to check the weather conditions before you leave for trekking. This would help you remain prepared for any kind of weather issues like landslides, rain, snow storms, etc. Knowing the weather conditions becomes more important when you are trekking trail includes river crossing or any such water body in the way. No doubt, it is safe, but when you are not sure about the weather conditions, it can lead to dangerous situations. Remain flexible with your trekking plans and keep the preparations to return back if the situation demands, or even look for proper shelter options if possible.

Pack your bags light

This is also one among the common mistakes that are observed among the beginners. They pack whatever stuff they come across, without thinking if it is necessary or not. They pack anything, which is surely a bad idea. Make a list of important things you would definitely require there and are light in weight. This would help you in accurate packing. Avoid taking unwanted items or heavy weight items with you as this can prove to be a barrier while you trek on your trail.

Go for lightweight food packings that are best for trekking and eliminate every unnecessary item from the list. Also, get required crockery set only along with required amount of water too. Another quick suggestion for packing is to pack your sleeping bag first and place rest of the heavy items on it which would distribute the weight on the back. Make sure you keep important items like water, jacket, etc. handy at the time of packing the bags for easy access.

Ensure your bag has first aid kit, utility knife, flashlight, torches, batteries, lightweight t-shirt, navigational devices, maps, sunblock, mosquito repellant, pest repellant, sunscreens, warm clothes, etc.

So, try your best to make your first traveling experience an unforgettable one with proper preparations.
